Apple CarPlay® puts your iPhone's maps, calls, messages and music on your Toyota's multimedia screen so you can use them with fewer distractions. If your Toyota has Toyota Audio Multimedia with CarPlay, setup is quick. You plug in your phone or pair it once over Bluetooth, and CarPlay takes it from there.

How to Set Up Apple CarPlay in Your Toyota
Before you start
- Park your Toyota (P) and start it.
- Make sure Siri is turned on in your iPhone's Settings.
- For a wired connection, have an Apple-certified USB cable ready. Use a cable that fits both your iPhone (USB-C on iPhone 15 and newer, Lightning on older models) and your Toyota's USB media port. A direct cable works better than an adapter, and charge-only cables often won't work.
Any iPhone 5 or newer works with CarPlay.
Choose your connection type
Not sure which one your Toyota has? Check the list of compatible models or look in your owner's manual. Wireless CarPlay is available on many newer models.
Option A: Wired CarPlay (USB cable)
- Connect your iPhone to the USB media port with an Apple-certified USB cable.
- When the multimedia system asks if you'd like to use CarPlay, select Yes. If you see an Always Enable option, select it so CarPlay starts automatically whenever your iPhone is connected.
- If your iPhone asks to use CarPlay, select Yes.
- If CarPlay doesn't open, press the Menu button on the multimedia system, then tap the Apple CarPlay icon.
Option B: Wireless CarPlay (Bluetooth)
- Turn on Bluetooth on your iPhone.
- On your Toyota's multimedia screen, select Settings (the gear icon) > Bluetooth & devices > Add another device > Search for devices.
- Select your iPhone's name from the list of discovered Bluetooth devices.
- Respond to the prompts on the multimedia screen to complete pairing.
- When the system asks if you'd like to enable CarPlay, select Yes. Then select Use when your iPhone prompts you.
If you chose No during pairing, go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices on the multimedia screen, choose your iPhone and turn on Use for Apple CarPlay. Your owner's manual has more detail for your specific model.
Using Apple CarPlay in Your Toyota
Once you're connected, press and hold the voice command button on your steering wheel and talk to Siri. Try "Show me the best places to get pizza near me," then pick a spot and Siri takes you there.
From the touchscreen or by voice, you can:
- Make phone calls and send texts hands-free
- Listen to podcasts, audiobooks and Apple Music
- Get directions with Apple Maps
Third-party apps work with CarPlay as long as they support it. To go back to your Toyota's home screen, select the Toyota icon. System audio and notifications still work while you're using CarPlay.
Apple CarPlay Not Connecting? Try These Fixes
If CarPlay won't connect or stops working, go through these one at a time and test after each. They follow guidance from Apple and Toyota.
- Restart your iPhone and turn your Toyota off and on again.
- Try a different Apple-certified cable and a different USB port. A worn or charge-only cable is a common cause of wired problems.
- Check that CarPlay isn't restricted: Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps.
- If you chose No during Bluetooth pairing, turn on Use for Apple CarPlay under Settings > Bluetooth & devices on the multimedia screen.
- Update your iPhone in Settings > General > Software Update.
- Connecting wirelessly? Make sure Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are on, then tap the CarPlay network in Settings > Wi-Fi and make sure Auto-Join is on.
- Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap your Toyota, tap Forget This Car, and set up CarPlay again.
- Check Toyota's CarPlay setup article for more troubleshooting.

Yes, on many newer Toyota models. Turn on Bluetooth, pair your iPhone from Settings > Bluetooth & devices on the multimedia screen, select Yes when asked to enable CarPlay, then select Use on your iPhone. Older models connect with a USB cable.
